Yesterday was World Rare Disease Day, a day for those living with a rare disease to come together, a day to spread awareness and a day to improve care for people with a rare diseases.

There are about 7000 rare diseases
80% of rare diseases are genetic
100 million people world wide are affected by a rare disease
About 50% are children
30% of children with a rare disease do not live past their 5th birthday
Receiving a diagnosis can take years, and often there is no cure
